Because SS304 stainless steel shows good corrosion resistance in many environments, in chloride environments, such as seawater or brine solutions, it may be affected by pitting or crevice corrosion. In contrast, SS316 stainless steel performs better in chloride environments, and the addition of molybdenum enhances its resistance to chloride corrosion, making SS316 stainless steel the preferred material for Marine engineering, chemical equipment and other highly corrosive applications.

For projects that need to withstand extreme corrosive environments, it is often worthwhile to invest in the more expensive SS316 stainless steel, whose excellent corrosion resistance and long-term stability can lead to longer service life and lower maintenance costs for these projects.
