EPDM, NBR, PTFE(Teflon) Seat Butterfly valve
Common non-metallic materials for butterfly valve seats include EPDM, NBR, and PTFE. This article mainly introduces the material information of different valve seats. If you need to buy EPDM/NBR/PTFE seated butterfly valves or more information, please contact VALTECCN butterfly valve suppliers and manufacturers business.
EPDM Seat Butterfly Valve Material
EPDM is the abbreviated name for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer. In general industry, one may see other abbreviations or trade names used in lieu of EPDM such as EPT, Nordel, ECD, or EPR. All of these are the same materials as EPDM.
EPDM is a standard seat material offered in VALTECCN resilient-seated butterfly valves. It is the most universal and economical of seat materials offered by VALTECCN; that is, it may be used in a wider range of applications.

EPDM Seat Material Features:
- Seat Cost – Most Economical.
- Temperature Ranges – minus 40°F to 250°F. Durometer increases when temperature is
consistently below 0°F. - Abrasion Resistance – Excellent
- Resistance to Tearing – Good
- Generally resistant and recommended for the following medias: Alcohols, Acidic Salts, Alkaline Salts, Alkaline Solutions, Beverages, Bleach, Hot Air, Inorganic Acids (Dilute,) Neutral Salts, Water (cooling, brackish, salt.)
- Generally not resistant to the following medias: Chlorinated Hydrocarbons, Hydrocarbon solvents & oils, Petroleum based oils, Turpentine.
NBR Seat Butterfly Valve Material

The term NBR stands for Nitrile Butadiene Rubber. It is also known as nitrile rubber, Buna-N and acrylonitrile butadiene rubber. It is a synthetic form of rubber that is produced from acrylonitrile and butadiene monomers.
NBR Rubber seated butterfly valve uses the flexibility of rubber seat, has good oil resistance, heat resistance and abrasion resistance, as well as good water resistance, air tightness and excellent bonding performance, could easily achieve zero leakge.
NBR is widely used in petroleum pipelines, but its disadvantages are low temperature resistance, ozone resistance, poor insulation, and universal elasticity.
PTFE Seat Butterfly Valve Material

A Teflon seal is typically classified as being either TFE, which is considered “virgin” Teflon, PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), or RTFE, which is virgin Teflon reinforced with no less than 15% fibrous glass. The advantage of Teflon is that it is extremely resistant to a wide range of chemicals.
PTFE material has strong acid & alkali resistance, resistance to various organic solvents. At the same time, the PTFE material is resistant to high temperatures which can be used continuously at 260°C, and the maximum use temperature can reach the emergence of 290-320°C
The unique properties of PTFE make it widely used in chemical, petroleum, textile, food, paper, medicine, electronics and machinery and other industrial and marine operations.
